It was not may years ago that the thought of breaking 80-days for sailing round the world was considered impossible.




In 1993 Bruno Peyron aboard Commodore Explorer achieved the ‘impossible’ when he and his crew circumnavigated in 79 days, 6 hours and 16 minutes. This record was subsequently beaten seven times - and then two boats bettered the record within weeks of each other.




First it was Thomas Coville and his crew aboard the 31-metre maxi trimaran, Sodebo Ultim, who finished on Christmas Day 2016. Their time of just 49 days, 3 hours, 7 minutes and 38 seconds was remarkable as the 50 day barrier was thought to be
