The annual Benoni Open Regatta was held at the end of February. This regatta is scored on a handicap system where the fleet is divided into two fleets based on age. The senior fleet or Open fleet competes for the Benoni Open Shield and the Juniors compete for the Benoni Cup which is one of the biggest trophies on the circuit.


There was a good entry of 35. Competitors turned up all eager to get on the water and do some racing. The wind was not ordered and the competitors spent most of the Saturday waiting for wind. By the end of day 1 just one race was sailed. Conditions on Sunday were not much better. The race officer, Mark Hawksworth, and his team managed to squeeze one race
